We are on the brink of exchanging contracts and had hoped it would occur before the end of 2017, but it's looking like inching into 2018. We will let you know as soon as it happens!
Round up of events from late 2017
Those of you who use Facebook will have seen our Christmas wishes, and we thank the kind photographers who donated images to be used in cards and online: Linda and Eddie Barrett, Michelle Bowden, Kirsty Button, Annette Ellis, Chris Farmer, Peta Hillier, Tony Lawford-Randall, Verity Newman.
This one was donated by Annette Ellis:
Here is the card with the image donated from Chris Farmer photography, it has a really Christmassy feel to it with stars twinkling.
A very big thank you to all who attended the coffee morning at the Red Lion in Chelmondiston, which raised over £2,000
The cakes made by volunteers were utterly delicious, and the sausage rolls provided by Chef Doug were in great demand by those who preferred savouries.
Owners Mandy and Doug kindly donated all the teas and coffees, and the cakes were donated by the volunteers who made them, what a treat! As a result, the event raised £2,000 which was very gratifying. Just as importantly, we had a cracking good time, and would like to thank Mandy and Doug for their hosting and generosity.
The Board is pleased to welcome Michael Hines as our new Company Secretary and Treasurer. Michael runs MHB Bookkeeping and has significant experience in professional book keeping and submitting financial returns.
One of his first duties was visiting 1st Holbrook Guides with our Chairman John Davitt, collecting a kind donation from the Guides.
Beverley Rudge, the Guide Leader said “The Guides were given information on several locally based charities. They unanimously voted to support the Shotley Pier project because they were already aware of it and they felt that the Pier would be an asset for the community in the years to come.”
Social Media: This can be an opportunity to share news and views, but has been a mixed blessing recently. If you see anything you think sounds contrary to what we have said at meetings or in newsletters, please feel free to contact us at shotleypier@gmail.com.
Plaques: Our attention is now turning to the plaques, with many already booked and paid for as part of our fund raising. If you are interested in being one of the first plaque owners, please let us know by 30th December. Founder members will get the largest one for £250, smaller, lower cost ones will be sold in the near future when we have samples to show you. The Board has been delighted with a local supplier who is working with us to use the latest etching technology to produce outstanding plaques, we will be announcing details in the New Year.
Documents: Some members have asked about governance documents such as our Rulebook. We are always happy to email it to you if you request to shotleypier@gmail.com or you can view it at www.shotleyheritage.co.uk where governance information is added to as we progress. The new Rulebook will be added in the "Our Rules" section after Christmas.
VACANCIES
Pier Master: As soon as we own the pier, we will be seeking a volunteer to fill the role of Pier Master. If you have any relevant experience and would be interested, please email shotleypier@gmail.com. Whilst it will be on a voluntary basis initially, we will need to consider this position in time.
Volunteer Rota Manager: Would you help us keep tabs on who is coming to help on which day ? As we gear up for work groups, we need someone who is happy to take and make phone calls and emails about work groups, so we do not have too many or too few helping on our group days. Email shotleypier@gmail.com if you would like a chat about this.
Lastly, thank you to Michael Gough, who cleverly told Google about the pier being a landmark. This has resulted in photos of the pier and our efforts appearing when people view a map of the area on Google.
