A sailboat looking to break a world speed record built by a Shotley engineer in his shed, will be on show in the British Science Museum from today (Tuesday).Using cutting edge carbon technology, Dave Chisholm single-handedly created Speedbird in his back garden in six months.Television personality and adventurer Hannah White, who lives in Woodbridge, will look to break two world records in the Moth-type racing sailboat later this year. The sleek black boat, which the team hopes will reach speeds exceeding 40 knots (around 50mph) has impressed so much that it will be displayed in the museum as a testament to its design, believed to be a first.Mr Chisholm said: “This was an incredible opportunity borne from a conversation after a mutual friend set a world record last year.“It has been extremely challenging but hopefully will all be worthwhile once Hannah is on the water going for that record.”Dave and Hannah have been practicing for their record bid on Alton Water using a Moth, which can often be seen transported through the peninsula on the top of a Carbonology van.‘Go Hard or Go Home’ and occasional Countryfile presenter, sailor and adventurer Hannah, an ambassador for Land Rover, is aiming to make her first world record 500 metre attempt in August when the weather is right. The team are ultimately eyeing the one mile record, which they will aim to break in Australia early in 2016.
