Duo Win Awards
Two of Shotley's finest have won community awards for their work in making our village even more appealing.
Gary Richens and Richard Davis will be presented their respective prizes at the Babergh Community Achievement Awards ceremony on Wednesday March 18, at Stoke By Nayland Hotel, Golf and Spa.
The awards are in recognition for the many hours of their time and work they have put in, voluntarily, to benefit our community.
Gary has been instrumental in helping the Shotley Stour Footpath Renovation Group, formed in 2000, to help prevent the loss of a vital coastal path and woodland, along the front at Shotley Gate.
Work done by the footpath group has made the area, which now includes a gundeck, quarterdeck and crow's nest area for picnicking and places for quiet contemplation, more accessible for young and old. It is also used by schools for some lessons, including art projects.
Richard has spent 10 years working tirelessly for the Shotley and Erwarton Good Neighbours Scheme since its inception. His roles have included treasurer and secretary and has been the go to man, always looking to help people, especially in the more remote areas.
The awards have been running for 20 years and the presentation will be made by James Long (Ind), the chairman of Babergh District Council.
