The Shotley Heritage Board meeting has approved a change in staffing today.
John Davitt has agreed to become the Chairman, while Sally Chicken will move to become the Vice Chairman. This move comes at a great moment for the project, with over £90,000 now secured for the purchas of Shotley Pier, and more than 200 people committed to supporting the purchase by buying community shares.
Pictured here at today's Board meeting (from left to right June Lawford-Randall, Barrie Powell, John Davitt, Peter Stebbings and Sally Chicken - Mike Scott was absent), Directors look forward to the next stage of work. Sally said, "John was a highly skilled Underwriter and Company Director before retiring, so I'm delighted I've persuaded him to take on a bigger role in the pier project. This will free me up to do more face to face work with the public, and to get on with grant applications for the renovation stage."
John said, "I'm privileged to be given the opportunity to help take the project to its next stage. Through Sally and the team's hard work we have raised sufficient funds to commence negotiations with the current owner and begin the process of renovating the pier. Much hard work still needs to be done but I'm very confident that with the skill and enthusiasm of all concerned we will be able to see the pier restored so that it can be used and enjoyed by all."
