UPDATE: SCC Highways were observing their duty of care by removing the tree for safety reasons. Since I reported the hazard caused by not just the stump left behind but also the uneven path (as the roots had lifted sections of the footway), SCC Highways has also scheduled the removal of the said stump and resurfacing of the footway. This is expected to take place within the next 20 days (but could be any time now). Applications for the planting of replacement trees should be made directly to SCC Highways, who own the verge. Many thanks
FYI- The above has been posted on social media for general information.

Dear Parishioners,
Please note that the Shotley Parish Council was not aware of and was not responsible for the felling of a large tree on Kitchener Way.
It was apparently felled by SCC Highways due to having a split trunk and I am in the process of making further follow up enquiries.
Understandably some of our residents are unhappy about the lack of consultation, warning etc but please note that we were not informed either.
