In order to raise additional funds to better support the learning of students with additional needs, staff and students at Holbrook Academy have arranged a ‘Pick a Postcard Exhibition’ on the evening of 12th July.
Well over 100 artists have agreed to support the initiative by providing a postcard-sized work of art for the exhibition. Each work can be purchased on the night. Artists include a number of internationally known painters, such as Maggi Hambling, Tory Lawrence, Glynn Thomas and Colin Slee. Alongside these will be works from currently less well-known local and regional artists as well as from a number of the Academy’s own highly gifted painters.
None of the works will be signed on the front, but all will have authentication on the rear and each work will be priced at £20. In this way, purchasers will not know whether they have bought a Hambling worth several thousand pounds, or a piece from an unknown painter whose works might in time command such prices.
Some will no doubt try to use a trained eye to spot an established gem, while others may be looking for that diamond in the rough. All, no doubt, will be looking to purchase something they like, and just as importantly, something which will help towards a very worthwhile cause.
The ‘Pick a Postcard Exhibition’ will be in the Academy’s Community Room and starts at 6:30pm. The cost of entrance tickets is £5. Art-lovers will be treated to canapes and fizz and suitably ambient background music performed by some of the Academy’s own music students.
