Message from Bill Jenman, AONB Projects Officer
Please forgive the generic email but I thought you would like to know that yesterday funding was confirmed for the project to underground (bury) the overhead electricity cables in the Hill House Farm/Church End area of Shotley. The project now gets handed over to UK Power Networks to deliver – please let me know now if you have any objection to my sharing your contact details with them.
The next step is for UKPN to talk to each landowner individually; they will need your formal agreement to the new cable route in the form of new wayleaves for you to sign before any work can start. Several landowners have requested minor changes to the proposed plan – I’ve talked to UKPN’s engineers about all these tweaks, and none of them seem to present any difficulty. However if you’re one of these landowners, please make sure that the agreement you’re asked to sign meets your needs! They’ll also want to discuss timing with everyone, to avoid any damage to crops.
Just to manage expectations, if all goes well the work will probably take a couple of years to deliver – if we assume that late summer (after harvest) would be ideal for doing the work, then we’re probably aiming for summer 2019 if all goes well on the legal side.
Do get in touch if you have any queries or concerns.
Thank you – it’ll be great to see the lines gone at last.
