Community First Responders are looking for a couple more volunteers to help cover the Shotley area.
Vital seconds can be saved by someone living locally, knowing the area and being trained in the necessary techniques, to help someone receive treatment before the ambulance service can reach a patient, especially deep in the Shotley peninsula.
The responders attend emergency calls on behalf of the East of England Ambulance Trust and attend mainly people who have suffered a heart attack or those with breathing difficulties.
Volunteers are called out after an initial 999 emergency call, but only respond when free to do so, governed by an automated service.
Fully licenced drivers with their own cars, who are physically fit and able to carry the emergency kit, are required to work flexible hours, which suit the individual.
Volunteers receive full training and have to undertake a DBS check.
