It has been another incredible season for Shotley FC after winning the SIL Division Four title with a thumping 5-0, win over Stonham Aspal reserves on Saturday.
The victory also heralded a third successive promotion and second title as Shotley storm their way up the Suffolk and Ipswich League pyramid, under manager Dean Scutcher
Shotley’s brand of attractive passing and attack-minded football has seen them win admirers as well as points in a competitive league.
“We like to play free flowing football all the time,” said Scutcher. “It doesn’t always work out but the boys have done extremely well and we have stuck to our principles.”
Although the team has to play at Holbrook, due to a lack of facilities required by the SIL, the team is comprised of Shotley lads and many also play cricket for Shotley.
Scutcher said: “We brought in a lot of youngsters a few years ago and it has paid off. We have a brilliant team spirit, we know each other well and we also play cricket together. This all helps us get through the tougher times.”
Shotley round off their season at home (Holbrook) against Tattingstone on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm, where they will be presented with the championship trophy and medals by league officials.
Tom Brown is looking to complete the season as top scorer but faces competition from Kieran Mandley who is one goal behind him.
Meanwhile, Shotley’s cricket season starts on Thursday.
