The controversial HMS Ganges plan has been backed once more by Babergh District Council officers.
Councillors are due to meet on Wednesday morning to debate the issue and whether to back their officers' recommendation to grant approval or go against them.
Members of Shotley Parish Council and a Trustee of the HMS Ganges Association museum will speak in favour of the application, which could see more than £5million pumped into the local economy by developers Haylink Ltd who want to build 285 houses, a 60-bedroom care home along with the renovation of the famous landmark mast, signal school tower and cermonial gates.
The S106, an agreement to be secured with the developers who would pay money for the benefit of the Shotley Peninsula, potentially includes paying in excess of £3m towards affordable housing, more than £1.5m for an improved bus service and bus stops. They would also be asked to agree to pay more than £660,000 towards a cycle path, which would run from Chelmondiston to Shotley marina.
Although the plan has already been approved by BDc before, and the Secretary of State decided not to call it in for reviews, delays in getting the development underway have been caused by legal action taken by Woolverstone Parish Council who deem the decision unlawful. Representatives from the WPC are due to argue against the council officers' recommendation.
