Ferry Saved
The Shotley to Harwich and Felixstowe ferry is set to operate as usual this summer after a new owner was found to run it.
There were fears the 100-year-old ferry would not run this summer after current owner Alan Sage announced his retirement and no new buyer could be found after two potential deals fell through.
But after the plight was highlighted on this website a buyer from Framlingham has come forward and contracts are set to be signed.
“I don’t want to count my chickens," said Mr Sage, "but a deal has been agreed so it is full steam ahead and should be completed early next week.
“I’m delighted the ferry will run as usual, I for one will be making the most of it, and I know it will be as popular as ever.
“I want to thank the Shotley website for running this story first and all the subsequent publicity it generated, which resulted in a buyer coming forward.”
Should everything go as planned then the ferry will start running once more under the new owner from Easter weekend as scheduled.
We will bring you an update next week when the deal is signed and sealed.
